Ed Waterstreet retires as Artistic Director of Deaf West
Ed Waterstreet, who built Deaf West, into the nation?s
#1 deaf theatrical group in USA, has retired as
Artistic Director.
At Gallaudet, Ed played football 4 full seasons as
a starter on the line; he also played baseball
two seasons, basketball one season and golf
for two seasons ? all during the sixties.
A versatile athlete, he pretty much was.
At Gallaudet, the first thing he would look for
in the newspapers was the sports section.
As a professional actor and director, the first
thing he would look for in the mornings is the
Variety. Yes, sports comes later when he?s done
with the Variety

Deaf Sports Trivia
Question:
What?s the name of the famous college basketball coach that played
against St. Mary?s School for the Deaf in 1970?
Answer:
John Beilien of University of Michigan ? In that game Charles Holmes
broke the school scoring record 41 points.
St. Mary?s won in overtime 79-66!!!? John Beilien had 9 points.
This was an upset!
Actually Holmes was the 6th man.
He started the game because one of the SMSD best players, Pat
Berrigan, was unable to play in that game.
The game was played on January 15, 1970 and DeSales High School in
Lockport.
The SMSD players in that game were: Carl Cerniglia 15 points; Dave
Fitzgerald 11 points; Pat Sullivan 6 points;? Joe Vega 4 points; and
Dean Dunlavey 2 points.
It was a proud day for St. Mary?s School for the Deaf!
