Sunday?s area sports briefs: Coastal Carolina baseball wins rubber game against Radford

Brian Pruett singled in a pair of runs in the fourth inning to give Coastal Carolina the lead en route to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Radford on Sunday to take two out of three in the weekend series.

Tucker Frawley also plated a run in the fourth and drove in another in the fifth to bump his team-best batting average to .352 thanks to three hits on the day. Ryan Connolly (1-1) picked up the victory in relief for Coastal (18-8, 2-1 Big South), allowing one hit in 22/3 scoreless innings.

College baseball

??South Carolina 6, (at) Vanderbilt 4 (13) | Christian Walker hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to lift the Gamecocks past the Commodores in the rubber game of a three-game set.

South Carolina (20-8, 3-6 SEC) led 4-0 before Vanderbilt rallied for three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.

The Commodores had the potential winning run in scoring position in the 10th, 11th and 12th innings, but USC relievers Matt Price and Jordan Montgomery kept them scoreless in the extra frames. The Gamecocks threatened in both the 10th and 11th before finally breaking through in the 13th.

Conway High School grad Colby Holmes allowed three runs in 42/3 innings and finished with a no-decision.

??Miami 4, (at) Clemson 2 | Trailing 2-1, the Hurricanes went in front on the seventh when Dale Carey singled in a pair of runs to highlight a three-run inning.

Stephen Perez followed Carey?s hit with a triple to score another run, pushing Miami?s lead to two.

The Tigers got the leadoff runner on base in the eighth and ninth innings, but failed to push another run across.

Phil Pohl drove in both runs for Clemson (14-13, 5-7 ACC), which took two out of three in the series. Mike Kent, who allowed two runs on two hits and did not record an out, suffered his first loss of the season.

ABA basketball

??The South Carolina Warriors, the Grand Strand?s first-year American Basketball Association team, will play the North Dallas Vandals on April 9 in the league?s Final Four a Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The San Diego Sol and Jacksonville Giants open play with a 7 p.m. tip-off with the Warriors and Vandals to follow.

CCU softball

?? (At) Coastal Carolina 3, Gardner-Webb 1 | Chelsea Pineda hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Chanticleers past the Runnin? Bulldogs.

Kiana Quolas (17-5) earned the victory in relief, allowing two hits in three scoreless innings.

CCU men?s golf

?? The Coastal Carolina men?s golf team shot 2-over 290 in the final round of the Insperity Augusta State Invitational to finish tied for 10th.

The Chants finished at 3-under 861 along with Southern Methodist, 23 strokes behind Augusta State and Texas, which won the event in a playoff.Coastal?s Charlie Winegardner (70-70-71?211) tied for 14th, Ben Wheeler (75-66-71?212) tied for 18th, Sebastian Soderberg (70-74-75?219 tied for 48th, Pete Valasek (74-74-73?221) tied for 59th and Andrew Dorn (73-75-76?224) tied for 66th.
